$225K gift rejected
PITTSBURGH — The University of Pittsburgh says it won’t accept an estimated $225,000 bequest from the gunman who committed suicide after killing three women and wounding nine others at a Pittsburgh-area health club. Court papers of the intended estate gift were filed Friday by the brother and executor for 48-year-old George Sodini. University spokesman Robert Hill rejected the offer on Tuesday. Two women injured in the Aug. 4 shooting an L.A. Fitness club intend to sue Sodini’s estate. Sodini graduated from Pitt in 1992.

Court denies fishing rights
CINCINNATI — A federal appeals court in Ohio has rejected the Ottawa Tribe of Oklahoma’s claim that it should be given commercial fishing rights on Lake Erie without government restrictions. The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati said the tribe gave up its fishing rights when it moved out of northwestern Ohio in the early 1800s. The state argued that the tribe’s complaint was based on a treaty that had nothing to do with Lake Erie or fishing rights there.
