National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum announces Wrangler Awards

The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum announced Friday that “Django Unchained,” Quentin Tarantino's revisionist Western, won the museum's Wrangler award for outstanding theatrical motion picture for this year's Western Heritage Awards.

The museum announced its full slate of Wrangler awards Friday for Western-themed film, television, literature and music completed in 2012.

“Django Unchained,” which won Oscars for best original screenplay and Christoph Waltz's best supporting actor performance, follows a freed slave who travels across the U.S. with a bounty hunter on a mission to rescue his wife from a cruel plantation owner. The film also stars Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kerry Washington, Samuel L. Jackson and former Oklahoma City resident Rex Linn.

“Longmire,” the A&E drama starring Katee Sackhoff, Lou Diamond Phillips and Robert Taylor, won for outstanding fiction drama. History Channel's “Hatfields & McCoys,” starring Kevin Costner, Bill Paxton and Tom Berenger, won outstanding television film docudrama.
