Delmar Smith of Edmond , legendary bird dog trainer, also was the gate keeper for the cowboys at the National Finals Steer Roping at the Lazy E Arena .
Smith was the gate man during steer roping finals from 1984 to 2000 when it was held at the Lazy E Arena. He resumed those duties this year when it returned to Oklahoma .
