Lane Kiffin has had his high times at Southern Cal, including a big upset of Oregon last season and entering 2012 as the nation's No. 1-ranked team. The Trojans seemed back atop the college football mountain.
But Saturday, the No. 1-ranked team in the Los Angeles Coliseum will be Notre Dame, and USC will be trying to avoid a five-loss season.
Kiffin, perhaps the sport's most unpopular coach among his peers, this season alone has had issues with his manager deflating footballs, his punter switching jerseys to confuse the opposition and battle royales with the LA media.
Kiffin has recruited well and fortified the Trojans after scholarship reductions hit USC. But the Trojans are 25-11 in Kiffin's three seasons.
Classy SC athletic director Pat Haden can live with a so-so record. But a so-so record and questionable antics? Kiffin might not be long for the Trojans. He'd be best served upsetting Notre Dame.
