National Signing Day: Jordan Weltzheimer follows line of Edmond Memorial players to sign with Air Force

There was a familiarity with Air Force for Jordan Weltzheimer.

The Edmond Memorial offensive lineman became the third Bulldog in four years to sign with the service academy Wednesday morning, but more importantly to him he had friends already there.

“One of the football players I played with and also a friend in the band there,” he said. “I know some people there and it's a really nice campus, so those were factors that went into it.”

Weltzheimer, a 6-foot-3, 300-pound tackle, was a big reason the Bulldogs averaged 235.5 yards per game on the ground.

“He did an unbelievable job for us,” Memorial coach Justin Merideth said. “Again, he's very, very raw and just scratching his potential. I see big things for him.”

Memorial has developed into a pipeline for the Falcons, sending Ry Huff and Will Conant to the academy the past few years.

It's a bond Merideth said he hopes continues.

“I think it all started with Will Conant to where they really started coming around our program and see how we emphasize character and discipline and what we do,” he said. “I think they respect that.

“Obviously, it starts with our kids going up there and having some success. They like they see with our program and they keep coming back. I'm very happy they do.”
