“I have a lot of people to prove wrong, because with the ankle injury they think I lost speed. But I still have it all. I actually gained some. So I have a lot to prove, and I plan on doing that.”

Akem, one of four four-star players OSU signed Wednesday, brings range and athleticism to a position that must replace departing seniors Caleb Lavey, Shaun Lewis and Joe Mitchell. Cowboy defensive coordinator Glenn Spencer said Akem, who sports a 6-1, 210-pound frame, has the versatility to play either inside or outside linebacker.

Following Wednesday's ceremony, Thomas prepared to head back to Stillwater, where he's learning about time management and responsibility while getting ready to compete in spring football.

Is Akem jealous his teammate is getting a head start on his OSU career?

“A little bit,” Akem said with a smile. “It would be fun to already be there, but I'll wait my turn and I'll be there in June.”
