PORT ARTHUR, Texas (AP) — The expansion of Motiva's Port Arthur refinery has been completed, more than doubling its daily processing capacity and making the refinery the biggest in the nation and one of the biggest in the world.
Officials with Royal Dutch Shell and Saudi Aramco, joint owners of Motiva, dedicate the new expansion Thursday that raises the plant's processing capacity to 600,000 barrels of crude oil.
The expanded plant provides more than 300 new permanent jobs and an overall economic impact of more than $17 billion for Southeast Texas. The plant has flexibility designed into it that allows production to be switched from gasoline and diesel fuel to other distillates and adapt to market fluctuations.
