Natural gas prices inch higher — but not for long

Natural gas prices inched up Tuesday, but the gain was not expected to last long.

Analysts said the nearly 4 percent bump in futures prices was due to buyers looking to cover short positions on the commodity, not a fundamental change in the marketplace.

“Everybody understands that we have plenty of gas out there,” said Tony Say, president of Clearwater Enterprises Inc. in Oklahoma City .
