Wizards guard John Wall said his inspiration for his final dunk Saturday night came from the Internet.
“It was just watching YouTube,” Wall explained of his leap over Wizards mascot G-Man. “Somebody sent me a YouTube link on my Twitter and it said 27 dunks that haven't been done in the dunk contest. And the first one was that one. And it seemed hard. But for me, it came out to be easy. So it worked out in my favor.”
Wall said he liked this year's new format in which the first round was a three-on-three team competition between East and West participants.
“I think it was cool,” Wall said. “It was fun. Brought some excitement to it in the first round. And basically the second round you go toe-to-toe with the guy from the West, and you got to have a great opportunity to beat those guys.”
NEW NICKNAME FOR DURANT?
A pair of Knicks kid reporters set out on an assignment to interview the All-Stars this week. Their work was shown on the videoboard throughout the events.
Late in the third quarter, the young boy and girl asked players for nickname suggestions for Kevin Durant since he doesn't like the “Slim Reaper” moniker.
“I think he's just KD,” said Dwyane Wade.
“I think we should call him Kevin Kevin Kevin,” said the Clippers' Blake Griffin.
“His momma call him Kevin, I'm going to call him Kevin,” said Chicago center Joakim Noah.
The kids then suggested “Slim KD” to Durant and other All-Stars as a play on rapper Eminem's alter ego, Slim Shady.
