NBA awards: Sixth-man award the hardest to pick this year

SIXTH-MAN AWARD — Last year was a piece of cake. Oklahoma City's James Harden was the runaway winner of Sixth Man of the Year. This year, though, there are as many as 10 players that could lay a claim to the award.

Miami's Erik Spoelstra and the Thunder's Scott Brooks were in last year's NBA Finals and are favored to get back there again, so they must be doing something right. Brooklyn's P.J. Carlesimo has gone 33-18 since taking over the 14-14 Nets. Memphis coach Lionel Hollins endured a salary dump from his ownership group and appears headed for the homecourt advantage in the first round of the playoffs. The Clippers won their first division title ever – including their days in Buffalo – but no one seems particularly enamored with coach Vinny Del Negro.

That's, what, a dozen coaching candidates?

There are so many worthy possibilities out there we could throw together an all-injured team with Chicago's Derrick Rose and Boston's Rajon Rondo at the guards, Indiana's Danny Granger and Minnesota's Kevin Love at the forwards and Philadelphia's Andrew Bynum at center.
