NEW YORK (AP) — The NBA is now publicizing what it is telling referees and teams about officiating points of emphasis.
The league sent a memo to those groups about verticality plays Monday, and for the first time also posted it online, along with the five other memos that were distributed this season.
The NBA has long sent similar literature to its referees, and this season also began delivering it to team officials and owners.
Making it available to fans and media was the next step. League president of operations Rod Thorn says that by further educating those groups, "then to us it can only help."
The memo sent Monday and posted at nba.com/official was a reminder that defenders must remain vertical when they jump or will be called for a foul.
