Views: Perhaps no coach or team president in history had a more profound impact on his sport than Red Auerbach, who spent more than five decades in the NBA. He won nine NBA titles (eight straight) as the Celtics' coach and seven more as the team's general manager. At last count, 23 current coaches and five general managers have a connection to Auerbach. He drafted the league's first black player, hired its first black coach and started its first all-black lineup. No wonder the Professional Basketball Writers Association of America named Aurebach the greatest NBA coach in history.
News: In the NBA general manager's preseason poll, Orlando Magic rookie J.J. Redick received honorable mention as the league's best pure shooter.
