Cleveland’s newest superstar crossed enemy lines when he tweeted "Let’s go Steelers let’s go” on his Twitter account after Pittsburgh’s 38-28 victory against San Diego on Sunday night. O’Neal acknowledged on Monday that he’s a "bandwagon football fan.” He developed a relationship with Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger over the summer during the taping of his Shaq Vs. television show. The NBA star says he has a special relationship with Roethlisberger, Terrell Owens and a couple of Cleveland Browns players. But he says he’s not really a football fan.
Suns’ Lopez out 6-8 weeksSuns center Robin Lopez will have surgery to repair a broken bone in his left foot and is expected to miss six to eight weeks. Lopez broke his fifth metatarsal — the long bone on the outside of his foot that connects to the little toe — in the second half of the team’s intrasquad scrimmage Saturday in San Diego. Team officials said the procedure to insert a screw in Lopez’s foot will be performed today at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix. Lopez, picked 15th by the Suns in 2008, averaged three points and two rebounds in 60 games as a rookie last season. Phoenix plays the Thunder at the Ford Center on Oct. 12 in Oklahoma City’s preseason home opener.
Utah’s Miles needs surgeryUtah Jazz shooting guard C.J. Miles has a ruptured ligament in his left thumb and will need surgery. The team said Miles injured his shooting hand in a fall during practice at London’s O2 Arena, where Utah plays the Chicago Bulls in a preseason game today. The Jazz won’t know how long Miles will be out until after the surgery. Utah opens the regular season Oct. 28 in Denver. Miles averaged a career-high 9.1 points last season and scored 16 Thursday night in Utah’s preseason opener against Denver.
