NBA TV will air the USA Basketball National Team's Blue/White intrasquad game at 8 p.m. Thursday from Las Vegas. Kevin Calabro will call the game at the Thomas & Mack Center with analyst Isiah Thomas with reporter Clyde Drexler.
Among the 28 players at the minicamp are OSU standout Marcus Smart and NBA stars Kyrie Irving (Cleveland Cavaliers), Paul George (Indiana Pacers), Damian Lillard (Portland Trail Blazers) and John Wall (Washington Wizards).
Coach Mike Krzyzewski said that he informed the guards when they arrived Sunday that when he was coaching Olympic floor generals Chris Paul and Deron Williams he worked to instill the concept of only being concerned of what was best for the team.
“I look to pass first and distribute first because if I can distribute then it's just going to open up things for me to score,” said Smart, one of just two collegians competing in the minicamp.
— Fox Sports Southwest and the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation will host a special benefit on Aug. 20 during the Astros-Rangers telecast to raise funds to support victims of the devastating tornadoes that hit Oklahoma and North Texas in May. The tornado relief benefit will feature a live online auction where fans will have an opportunity to bid on several one-of-a-kind sports and entertainment packages provided by Fox Sports Southwest and participating sponsors. Proceeds will benefit the United Way OK Strong Disaster Recovery Fund and Mission Granbury.
— Two divisional leaders will meet on ESPN's “Sunday Night Baseball” as Atlanta hosts St. Louis at 7 p.m. Sunday. Dave O'Brien, analysts Orel Hershiser and John Kruk and reporter Buster Olney will call the game. ESPN also has announced its game Aug. 11 and 18 game selections: Tampa Bay at Los Angeles Dodgers on Aug. 11 and New York Yankees at Boston on Aug. 18.
— “Fox UFC Saturday” returns to Key Arena in Seattle on Saturday with a title bout featuring UFC flyweight champion Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson (17-2-1) against No. 1 contender John Moraga (13-1-0). Johnson's first title defense took place during the network's UFC card in January, where he beat John Dodson in a five-round unanimous decision. The 7 p.m. card will include three preliminary bouts. Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan will call all the bouts, including additions matches at 4 p.m. on FX.
