NCAA Tournament: Bracket breakdown — East Regional

BY MIKE BALDWIN, Staff Writer, Published: March 17, 2013

Here is our evaluation of the East Regional of the men's NCAA Tournament:

Indiana got a good draw. This is the easiest regional. Many believe Cody Zeller and the Hoosiers are the team to beat for the national title. Miami has a sparkling resume but lacks NCAA Tournament experience. Marquette is solid but was seeded one spot too high. Inconsistent Syracuse is capable but also could lose early in the tournament. Indiana, fourth in the nation in scoring (80.0), is entertaining with a lot of weapons. The Hurricanes, the ACC champions, don't rank in the top 25 nationally in any team category but don't have a major weakness. Another solid Buzz Peterson team at Marquette. The Golden Eagles will be a tough out but sometimes have rebounding issues.

Bucknell over Butler: This isn't the same type of Butler team that made Final Four runs. The Bulldogs finished third in the Atlantic 10 behind Saint Louis and Virginia Commonwealth. Bucknell upset Kansas in the opening round in Oklahoma City eight years ago. Led by senior forward Mike Musala, who leads the nation with 22 double-doubles, the Bison are primed for another upset.

Liberty vs. James Madison: Liberty junior G Davon Marshall is one of the nation's top 3-point shooters. The Dukes (20-14) lived the dream with a hot Colonial Athletic Association tournament.

1 Indiana vs. 16 Liberty-James Madison winner: One of the nation's most entertaining teams should romp in the opener no matter which team advances out of Dayton.

8 North Carolina St. vs. 9 Temple: Could be a shootout. The Wolpack is one of the nation's top scoring teams (77.5). Unlike past Temple teams, the Owls also like to play fast.
