NCAA Tournament: Bracket breakdown — East Regional

by Michael Baldwin Published: March 17, 2013

5 UNLV vs. 12 California: A rematch. Runnin' Rebels escaped 76-75 early in season. Freshman 6-8 F Anthony Bennett leads a dynamic UNLV offense. Bears haven't posted a big win in a long time.

4 Syracuse vs. 13 Montana: The Orange has been vulnerable the second half of the season. The 'Cuse should win but this is no gimme. The Grizzlies went 21-1 against Big Sky foes.

3 Marquette vs. 14 Davidson: The Golden Eagles have a good shot at reaching the Elite Eight. Davidson enters the Big Dance riding a nation best 17-game winning streak.

6 Butler vs. 11 Bucknell: The Bulldogs, led by Oklahoma product Rotnei Clarke (16.7 ppg), are on upset alert against Bucknell, which has one of the nation's unsung players (Mike Musala).

7 Illinois vs. 10 Colorado: A matchup of two capable teams that have been inconsistent. The Illini finished seventh in the Big Ten. The Buffaloes finished fifth in the Pac 12.

2 Miami vs. 15 Pacific: The Hurricanes, the biggest surprise this season, should have little trouble against Pacific, making its fifth appearance under coach Bob Thomason, who is retiring.
