WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) — Theodore Roosevelt National Park is hosting its annual Badlands Star Party in the park's north unit on August 22 and August 23.
Constellation tours will be offered from about 10 p.m. each night and telescopes will be set up at Oxbow Overlook at the end of the north unit's scenic drive.
Park superintendent Valerie Naylor says the dark night skies are one of the things that make the national park a special place. She says park workers work hard to keep light pollution away from the protected land.
Theodore Roosevelt National Park is divided into two units separated about 50 miles. The south unit is near Medora. The north unit is about 15 miles south of Watford City in western North Dakota's oil patch.
