A self-proclaimed neighborhood nanny was arrested by Oklahoma City police this week after witnesses reported she chased a group of children through the street with a knife.

Connie Ann Dismuke, 46, was arrested on a complaint of assault with a deadly weapon. She told police she “was just taking care of the kids,” but witnesses reported seeing a woman run through the 5200 block of Gaines Street about 10 p.m. Tuesday with a 6-inch filet knife, cursing and chasing a group of children who were playing in the street.

According to a police report released Friday, the woman swung the knife at the children as they scattered. No one was injured.

Dismuke declined to comment when reached by telephone Friday.

The officer who responded to the call reported that Dismuke was “very intoxicated” at the time of her arrest. She told the officer she is “the nanny of the neighborhood.”
