Property owners don't want duplexes built near Oak Ridge Drive and Second Street.

They said this week the proposed duplexes would lower their property values and cause traffic problems on an already dangerous roadway.

The Hansen Family Trust wanted to change the zoning from restricted commercial to planned unit development so it could build a 24,000-square-foot retail shopping center on 5.55 acres on the southern half of the property.

The development is to be called Bradbury Station.

The developer also wants to build duplexes with 10 buildings and 20 units on 4.38 acres.

Windsong housing addition is located to the north with Ridge Point housing addition to the east. Mason Oaks housing addition is to the northeast.

Planning commissioners turned down the zoning request and application to change Edmond's zoning plan by a 3-2 vote. Commissioners Mark Hoose and Rob Rainey voted for the project.

City council members are scheduled to make a final decision on Jan. 28.

Chairman Barry Moore, who voted against the requests, said retail in that area doesn't make sense and that he has a problem with the duplexes. He called the traffic in the area a nightmare.

Ernie Isch, engineer for the Hansen Family Trust, said the plan calls for 4.6 dwelling units per acre.

“We meet all the Edmond standards,” Isch said. “We comply with all the regulations.”
