EDMOND — Grabbing a chain-link fence for support, Louie Almon leaned over and wept for his great aunt, who police said died at the hands of a relative Saturday.

“It's a nightmare,” Almon said. “It's disturbing.”

Ronald Sparks, 47, of Edmond, was arrested in connection with the woman's death, Edmond police Sgt. Chad Langley said.

Officers were called about 3:20 p.m. Saturday to 1000 E Edwards Street about a possible drowning. When they arrived, they found an “elderly female” dead in the bathroom.

It appeared that she was in the bathtub and removed by Sparks before authorities arrived at the house, Langley said.

Police said Sparks is a relative of the woman and lives in the house with her and another woman.

The deceased woman's name has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.

Langley said Sparks called 911 and seemed visually upset at the scene; however, investigators later discovered signs of a struggle and arrested Sparks on a murder complaint.

Sparks was booked into Oklahoma County jail about 1:30 a.m. Sunday, a jail employee said.

No weapons were found at the scene, Langley said. The state medical examiner will determine the woman's cause of death.
