Neon colors beckon customers to Oklahoma City bicycle shop

Former OU swim coach Lewis Lindenberg had his bicycle shop painted in bright neon colors, much like a watermelon, to attract customers' attention.

Before opening his new bicycle shop, Lewis Lindenberg had the exterior painted eye-catching neon green and bright red. “We wanted a color that when people were driving by, it hit them straight in the face,” he said.

The color scheme reminded him of a watermelon, so the business was named Melonbike.

A former swim coach at the University of Central Oklahoma, Lindenberg rode bicycles to compete in triathlons alongside his students. When the time came to leave coaching, opening a bicycle shop was a perfect fit, he said.

Melonbike carries all types of bicycles: cruisers, road bikes, BMX, mountain bikes, triathlon bikes and balance bikes for children. Lindenberg said his staff will work to find the perfect fit for the customer and not just recommend the most expensive bike.

The store specializes in parts and accessories, maintenance and repair.

“We are the biggest parts supplier in the city,” said Lindenberg, a native of Berlin, Germany. “Our service sets us apart. We are really quick on the turn around.”
