America's newest citizens are a small voting bloc nationwide, but big enough to make a difference in some swing states. People who became citizens since 2000 make up 3.6 percent of the nation’s voting age citizen population, says a new analysis of U.S. Census data by the University of Southern California. But in crucial swing states Florida and Nevada, the newest citizens represent 6 percent and 5.1 percent of potential voters.
