New federal law aims to help tribes, law enforcement

S EVERAL Oklahoma Indian tribes have cross-deputizing agreements with local law enforcement agencies, which allow tribal officers to assist with cases not on Indian land, and vice versa. Many tribes around the country have no such deals in place, which is one reason a law signed recently by President Obama is important.
