EL RENO, Okla. (AP) — Gov. Mary Fallin says a new interchange will be built off Interstate 40 in El Reno as the area sees more traffic from the energy industry.
The interchange will be paid for by a combination of public and private funds. The governor says it's the largest public-private transportation infrastructure project in the state.
The interchange is expected to be complete in 2014 and will create a five-lane overpass and widen Radio Road to four lanes.
El Reno has become a hub for the oil field service industry and employs thousands of people.
A groundbreaking was also held Friday for a new Performance Technologies facility on the southeast corner of the interchange location. The company is an affiliate of Chesapeake Energy and will employ more than 300 workers at the new facility.
