New label shows Choc's 3.2 plans

I came across a new keg label from Choc Beer Co. yesterday for a beer called Harvest Ale.

The good news: it’s a pumpkin saison that Choc brewmaster Michael Lalli said tastes very good and that they spent “quite a bit of time working on.”

The (sort of) bad news: You can only get it on tap at Pete’s Place in Krebs.

Harvest Ale is the latest offering from Choc that checks in at 3.2%. Lalli said Choc is focusing on turning out some solid 3.2 offerings to have on tap at Pete’s Place/The Choc Room. One motivation is the liquor laws in Pittsburg County, which prohibit the sale of strong beers on Sundays, Lalli said.

He said Choc is mindful of beer tourists and others who might want to visit The Choc Room (essentially a sports bar/beer bar area at Pete’s Place, for those who don’t know) on a Sunday. Now, such beer seekers will have four or five good offerings to choose from, including the Saison de Krebs farmhouse ale that I blogged about last month.

As Lalli told me: “There’s no reason at all you can’t make good 3.2 beer.”

In other label news, I also spotted this keg-topper from Roughtail:

I reported several weeks ago about Roughtail’s seasonal plans, but this sort of solidifies it. Pumpkin Porter is first on deck, and it will be followed by Winter Weizenbock Ale.
