Aside from Angel Fire, New Mexico offers several other ski areas that have something for skiers of all levels, as well as a variety of experiences off the slopes. All feature ski and ride schools, either in group or individual settings, as well as rental shops and all the other amenities common to full-service ski and ride areas. Here's a sampling.

Family fare: Red River

Red River is known for a family-friendly atmosphere, and nearly every lodge and condo is close to the lifts in this small Alpine village. Its 57 ski trails are almost evenly split between beginner, intermediate and expert. In addition to the skiing, there are trails in town and also nearby going up toward Wheeler Peak that are ideal for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. While small, the town has plenty of dining choices (Capo's Corner serves Italian food right by some of the bigger lifts) and a full-fledged grocery store, all within walking distance of most in-town lodges. One-day adult lift tickets are $63.
