VIERA, Fla. (AP) — New Washington Nationals manager Matt Williams is already breaking out the slogans.

Players and catchers reported to the Nationals complex in Florida on Thursday, and they found a motto for the first two days of upcoming workouts.

For Day 1, it'll be "He who holds the ball controls the game." For Day 2, it's "Every pitch we make is with conviction."

Players say they like that Williams is so well organized. Reliever Drew Storen calls it "a different vibe" and that Williams is "going to keep it fresh."

The Nationals also traded for a backup catcher, sending pitcher Nate Karns to the Tampa Bay Rays for Jose Lobaton and two prospects.

General manager Mike Rizzo says the deal essentially fills the last significant hole in the roster.
