Happy Saturday.

It’s been a busy week in Edmond so here’s a brief look at some of the stories that made the headlines.

• Ban.
The city council approved new rules against smoking at city parks and ball fields. The new ordinance will take effect in 30 days. Violation of the ordinance carries a $200 dollar fine.

The ordinance also should help cut down on trash and secondhand smoke at the parks. The message here is keep your butts out of the park if you want to smoke.

• Finals.
Deer Creek and Edmond high school students finished semester exams this week.

If Murphy’s Law is correct then 80 percent of the final exams were based on the one lecture you missed and the 10 chapters you didn’t read.

Thousands of students from University of Central Oklahoma and Oklahoma Christian University graduated and are now entering the job market.

It reminds me of a bumper sticker I once saw on a car.

"Hire college graduates while they still know everything.”

• Lights.
This week I reported on Christmas light shows that some Edmond homeowners put together themselves.

Timothy Breninger is using the latest technology to put on a Christmas musical show at his home at 15709 Teesdale Road featuring more than 1,600 Christmas lights synchronized to music from the "Pirates of the Caribbean” to "Amazing Grace.”

Drivers can tune to a low power transmitter at 104.5 FM to hear the music in their vehicles.
