Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor a move across town can stop the U.S. Postal Service — at least not in Oklahoma City.

To consolidate mail processing operations, Oklahoma City postal workers are moving from the processing and distribution center at 320 SW 5 to a new complex at 4025 W Reno, which opens Monday.

"The move is like changing an airplane engine in mid- flight,” said Larry Flener, spokesman for the Oklahoma City district of the postal service. "We still have to maintain service and have equipment and resources in place to provide a seamless transition from one facility to another.”

The duties of at least three mail processing locations – 320 SW 5, 5700 S Portland and 6500 Air Cargo Road – and the administrative offices at 3030 Northwest Expressway will be under one roof.

The marketing, training and human resources departments, medical unit, labor relations and consumer affairs offices, all formerly at 3030 Northwest Expressway, will be inside the new 830,665-square-foot complex. There are also 100 docks, as opposed to the 58 docks at the old site.

Flener said the combination should streamline postal operations and provide more efficient service to customers.

"If (customers) need support from administrative personnel, now there's only one place to look,” Flener said. "We won't be required to process mail and transport it back and forth to different locations to serve our customers. To me, this is one of the more significant changes for improving our service in Oklahoma in many, many years.”

Mr. McBrayer has a dim view of the U.S. Postal Service here in Oklahoma City.
I think his beef should be with the Midwest City location. Not all branches are lacking in service. I just want to state that the West Britton Road branch is outstanding. You just can’t ask for better or friendlier service. The delivery person is over the top.
