New program for teens with autism at EMU
YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) — Teens with autism will get the chance to learn and discuss important topics in their transition to adulthood during a new program at Eastern Michigan University's Autism Collaborative Center.
The True & Respectful Understanding of Sexuality for Teens program, or T.R.U.S.T., will teach high-school age boys and girls with autism information about sex, sexual health and relationships.
The program begins Monday from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and continues every Monday through April 22. Each week will tackle a different topic, including biology, health and hygiene and self-protection. Parents will receive notes on the topics covered each week to discuss with their teens at home.
EMU'S Autism Collaborative Center offers a range of services for people with autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders.
