New rules for Oklahoma movers meant to protect consumers

“The Oklahoma Corporation Commission regulates all intrastate transportation of household goods,” transportation division Director Marchi McCartney said. “We want to be sure all consumers and the moving companies themselves are aware that state law has new requirements aimed at consumer protection.”

The new rules require companies that offer moving services within Oklahoma to provide customers with a written estimate and a copy of the Corporation Commission's “Moving in Oklahoma” brochure.

Moving companies, which must register with the commission, also have to include their U.S. Department of Transportation number on all advertising materials.

Officials said people should look for registered movers because they can be assured those companies are properly insured.

The site also includes a listing of all authorized household goods movers in Oklahoma. There were 74 companies on the list Wednesday.
