New snow-cone stand planned

NORMAN — Some of Lisa Stambeck's fondest childhood memories are of standing in line on a hot, summer night waiting to get her hands on a strawberry-banana snow cone, her favorite flavor.

"I like snow cones. I always have. I like that there are a million flavors," Stambeck said. "But that's not the main reason I want to operate a snow cone stand."

Stambeck says she wants to open a seasonal stand selling shaved ice treats because she wants to make memories "and some out-of-this-world snow cones" for other children "no matter what their age."

"There's nothing better than that experience in the summertime," Stambeck said.

City council members Tuesday granted permission to Stambeck to open a seasonal snow cone stand in a parking lot at 2201 W Main St.

The site is leased from and behind Hob Nob Rob's liquor store where Bella Crema Gelato and Italian Ice used to operate seasonally from mid-April through September.

Stambeck said Bella Crema's owners have found a different market and have sold her the portable stand she plans to convert to Cosmic Cones. has disabled the comments for this article.
