A fresh, new steeple went up on top of First Christian Church at 201 E Second St. this week, replacing the steeple damaged in a hailstorm May 29, 2012.

Last year's storm left the church with extensive damage to the roof, air conditioner and steeple. Karla Mahan, church business administrator, said damages totaled $230,000.

The old steeple was removed Tuesday and replaced Wednesday. The new steeple was in three sections, and workers spent about 2½ hours raising it into place.

Made from Fiberglas, the new steeple was provided by the same Texas company that made the previous steeple, installed in 1995.
