New year dawns for city schools
Superintendent calls on campuses to weigh their needs
Superintendent Karl Springer shook hands with custodians, made mental notes as he talked to teachers and high-fived students as he toured two Oklahoma City School District campuses on the first day of class.
He started Thursday at Southeast High School , where most students were already in class by 8 a.m. Only a few stragglers were left to clear the metal detectors.
