News: Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne reacts to drummer firing controversy

by Nathan Poppe Published: May 9, 2014

In a new, lengthy Rolling Stone interview, Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne answered a multitude of questions ranging from his behavior at the Norman Music Festival, Christina Fallin and firing Kliph Scurlock from the Lips.

In one polarizing answer, he describes Scurlock as a “hateful pathological liar.”

Scurlock took to Facebook yesterday and posted a 3,500+ word description of how he’s dealt with being fired. He also clarifies that he doesn’t think Coyne is a racist. Recently, Wayne posted photos of his friends and a dog in headdresses.

This is not the first time the Flaming Lips has shed members, but Scurlock’s involvement in the band for more than a decade has helped the story gain national attention.
