REFINING NEEDS: Delta Air Lines Inc. bought a refinery in in Trainer, Pa., to make much of its jet fuel.

BRING IN BAKKEN?: Delta is looking into getting crude by rail from the Bakken Shale in North Dakota to feed the refinery, instead of the ship-born — and more expensive — oil that most East Coast refineries use.

MAY BE OFF-TRACK: Delta may spend a lot to handle incoming oil railcars, only to have the price advantage vs. ships disappear. Also, hauling oil by rail adds to its cost.
