STRONGER GROWTH: A measure of the U.S. economy's future health rose in July, pointing to stronger growth in the second half of the year.

THE NUMBERS: The Conference Board says its index of leading indicators increased 0.6 percent last month to a reading of 96.0. The gauge is designed to anticipate economic conditions three to six months out.

OUTLOOK: The economy grew at an annual rate of 1.4 percent from January through June. Many economists expect growth could improve to a 2.5 percent rate in the second half of 2013.
