SOLID START: Of the 67 companies in the S&P 500 index that have reported quarterly earnings so far, 43 have trumped estimates. Analysts forecast that fourth-quarter earnings will increase 4 percent over the same period the year before, according to S&P Capital IQ.
FINAL SCORE: The Dow gained 54 points to end the week at 13,650. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 5 points to 1,486.
