HAMMER AND NAILS: Confidence among U.S. homebuilders has hit its highest level in nearly eight years, reflecting more optimism about new home sales growth.
THE NUMBERS: The latest National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo builder sentiment index jumped to 59 this month from 56 in July. It was the fourth consecutive monthly gain. The index hasn't been this high since November 2005.
