UNEMPLOYMENT CLAIMS FALL: The number of Americans filing for weekly unemployment benefits fell last week by 12,000 to a seasonally adjusted 365,000, the Labor Department said Thursday.
BUSINESSES HIRE MORE: Businesses created 201,000 jobs in August, according to a survey by private payroll provider ADP. That's the most reported by the survey since March.
OUTLOOK: The pair of positive reports sketched a brighter outlook for the job market one day before the government reports on August employment. Still, most economists expect only modest job growth, predicting that employers added only 135,000 jobs last month.
