NewsOK held a contest Monday to send two lucky readers to the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert at the Chesapeake Energy Arena. Throughout the day, readers submitted emails to our staff to be entered into the contest.
At 4 p.m. we randomly selected Kristian Brown as our winner and asked him to give us a review of the show.
Here's what he had to say:
My evening was already all planned out. Get home around 5:30ish, help the kids with their homework and eat dinner before donning my Urlacher jersey for the Bears/Lions matchup on MNF. But an email arriving around 4:15 from Jay Spear at NewsOK.com changed all that. "Set the DVR honey and keep dinner warm......I just won two tickets to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers tonight!!"
Called my cousin Brian on the way to pick up the tickets at The Oklahoman's headquarters, met Jay and NewsOK's Ryan Free and we were set. Our seats were perfect. Think half-court, row 6 at a Thunder game with the band playing just behind the baseline to your left.
The late arriving crowd filled in while the opening act "Thundercat" wailed thru their set. They were a talented group with an odd combination of funk and a synthesized new age sound. Entertaining (and loud) enough to hold you until Kiedis and the guys took the stage.
