NORMAN — Former Oklahoma defensive end Frank Alexander was unable to take part in the on-field portion of the NFL Combine due to a previously undiagnosed heart condition, he said Monday on Twitter.

He said that he does not believe the condition is career-threatening.

Alexander said Sunday night that he would not participate in drills Monday, the day designated for defensive linemen and linebackers.

But Alexander initially did not indicate a reason. He responded to someone’s inquiry the following day, saying, “I had a heart condition I didn’t know (about).”

Prospects undergo a battery of medical tests as a part of the Combine. Several fans asked Alexander whether he would be able to pursue an NFL career, and he said yes.

“Minor setback for a major comeback!” Alexander tweeted Sunday night. “Gotta keep my head and keep on pressing #Godisgood.”

It’s unclear if he will be ready for OU’s March 14 Pro Day.

Alexander emerged in 2011 as the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. The 6-foot-4, 255-pound senior collected 54 tackles, including a league-high 19 for a loss – 8 1/2 of them sacks.
