NFL Draft: Oklahoma, Oklahoma State players get ready for combine

Meanwhile, former Cowboys won't be as prominent at this year's event, as running back Joseph Randle and kicker/punter Quinn Sharp will be Oklahoma State's only representatives.

Last year, Oklahoma State sent its two superstars to the combine in quarterback Brandon Weeden and receiver Justin Blackmon, as well as four other players who contributed to the national rise of the school's football program.

Here's a look at the six Sooners and two Cowboys who will work out for scouts in Indianapolis from Feb. 23-26.

OU

TONY JEFFERSON

Position: Free safety

Size: 5-foot-11, 212 pounds

Where he'll impress: Jefferson is athletic and tough, having played most of last season on a painful sprained ankle. He's a big hitter, and his attitude has made him a strong leader.

Where he'll underwhelm: He's undersized and lacks elite speed. His tackling technique can be poor, often resulting in missed tackles.

What he can gain at the combine: Jefferson's impressive athleticism and natural instincts could help him rise into a higher round.

Current draft projection: Third round

LANE JOHNSON

Position: Offensive tackle

Size: 6-7, 303

Where he'll impress: An athletic freak, Johnson transformed himself from junior-college quarterback to top-notch offensive tackle while maintaining his 4.7-second time in the 40-yard dash.

Where he'll underwhelm: There will be questions about Johnson's relative inexperience as an offensive lineman. He'll also need to continue adding strength to his frame.

What he can gain at the combine: Johnson has seen his draft stock skyrocket, and it continues to rise. A strong combine performance could boost him into the top 10.

Current draft projection: First round

LANDRY JONES

Position: Quarterback

Size: 6-4, 218

Where he'll impress: With his strong arm and size, Jones looks like a prototypical NFL quarterback. He's seasoned from four years as a college starter, and Jones' strong character will show during interviews.

Where he'll underwhelm: Decision making, throwing accuracy and pre-snap reads are all areas in which Jones sometimes struggled throughout his OU career.

What he can gain at the combine: Jones impressed throughout Senior Bowl practices, but struggled in the game itself. He could rise into the second round with an impressive combine showing.
