CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — The board of directors of New Hampshire's Business and Industry Association has voted to support a gas tax increase targeted to road and bridge repairs.

The association, which represents more than 400 members, says it supports increasing the gas tax by 4 cents per gallon if 100 percent of the increase goes to the maintenance and improvement of roads and bridges.

The group does not support a bill currently before the state Senate that would increase the tax this year and every four years after, and it would not support automatic increases tied to inflation.

BIA President Jim Roche says the gas tax hasn't been raised in 22 years, while the cost of asphalt has more than quadrupled.
