The NHL’s Edmonton Oilers fired head coach Ralph Krueger on Saturday, and they did it via Skype, according to Mashable.com.

The site reports Krueger last just one season in Edmonton and led the team to a record of 19-22-7. The Oilers missed the NHL Playoffs for the seventh straight year.

“This past Thursday he had requested that I accept him on Skype so he could Skype me,” Krueger told the Canadian sports site TSN. “When the conversation began it went to business very quickly and he was quite clear with the message that ... he felt it was necessary for him to hire a new head coach.”
