NM offers mobile app for road information

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — State officials say a new mobile application allows travelers to use their smartphones to obtain information about New Mexico road conditions.

The Department of Transportation says the app can help motorists learn about highway closures or restrictions, traffic congestion, road construction, weather conditions for New Mexico cities and find web cameras showing some roadway sections. That information is now available on the agency's web site.

The app provides a "hands free" audio feature for users in English and Spanish, and there's a warning to not use the app while driving.

Department officials say iPhone users can go the Apple apps store to download the application and it's available for phones using Google's Android operating system at Goggle Play. The app also can found at the agency's road web site, (http://www.nmroads.com ).
