"We didn't make much progress there. So we did not bring him back out," Carroll said.

Outside linebacker Bruce Irvin will be able to play after missing two days of practice this week with a thigh injury. He was a full participant in Friday's practice. The only other concern for Seattle is backup quarterback Tarvaris Jackson, who missed the last two days of practice with an illness.

Carroll also said that James Carpenter will start at left guard against the 49ers. Carpenter and Paul McQuistan had been rotating at the position the past few weeks.

"He's earned that shot to do that and we've told him a couple of weeks ago we'd be in this type of rotation to give these guys a chance to really battle," Carroll said. "I love the fact that here we are, this late in the season, that we're still competing for spots."
