Several inaccurate Facebook posts have caused a stir this week by misreporting that the Noble Animal Shelter is closing and that all of the dogs at the shelter will be euthanized.

The shelter is not closing. However, some of the dogs at the shelter will be euthanized Wednesday if no one adopts them, an official said.

The online rumor started during the past week when word spread that Jared Cox, Noble's animal control officer, would have to cut back on the hours he works at the animal shelter. One of the police dispatchers quit a few weeks ago, and Cox, who normally works as a dispatcher on Sundays, will have to take more shifts until a new dispatcher is found.

“With having to help in the dispatch office, I won't be able to have as much adoption or rescue time,” Cox said. “It's one of those things we are trying to push it out there because I'm going to be pulling back on my hours — somehow that exploded on Facebook to being that I'm shutting my shelter down.”

Cox did not specify how many animals would be euthanized Wednesday. He said it could be a “fair number,” depending on how many animals he is able to get adopted Tuesday.
