Balliets, event to help YWCA

Balliets on the Classen Curve in Oklahoma City and the YWCA Capital Campaign Committee will join forces to host “Balliets Does Christmas” from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the store located at 5801 N Grand Blvd.

Balliets will donate a portion of proceeds from the event to the YWCA Capital Campaign which is raising money to build a new shelter for battered women and children in Oklahoma City, repurpose the existing shelter and renovate the McFarland Center in northeast Oklahoma City.

The evening will include fashion and jewelry shows, hors d’oeuvres, live music, cocktails and the opportunity to win four fashion packages. Each guest will receive 20 percent off all fashion merchandise valid through Friday and a $50 gift card good toward the purchase of $150 or more at Balliets valid through Dec. 24.

A tax-deductible donation of $50 per person serves as a reservation. For more information or to buy a ticket, call 751-9335. Chili cook-off benefits United Way

VI Marketing and Branding recently hosted its 10th annual Carne Diem VI Chili Cookoff to raise money for the United Way.

With help from local restaurants that provided chili and The Oklahoman Food Editor Dave Cathey, local musicians The Wise Guys and others, VI Marketing raised $3,100 for the United Way of Central Oklahoma

Rococo’s just edged out Deep Fork Grill to claim the professional category and the flaming chili bowl traveling trophy, pictured here, that goes with it.

World Neighbors hosts sale

Find holiday gifts that give back and reflect the giving spirit of the season by shopping at World Neighbors fair trade Gift Shop from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays Monday through Dec. 21.

All sales benefit World Neighbors programs, which currently help more than half a million people in rural villages from 11 countries.

World Neighbors Holiday Sale also will open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on two Saturdays, Dec. 8 and Dec. 15, and have extended hours from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. every Monday.

The entire gift shop, located at World Neighbors headquarters at 4127 NW 122, will feature a 20 percent discount.
