Nonprofit gives school supplies to children in military families in Midwest City

Operation Homefront, a national nonprofit supporting military families, gave away 500 backpacks and supplies to Midwest City schoolchildren.

Operation Homefront, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to providing emergency and financial assistance to military families, held a Back-to-School Brigade event Wednesday, at which backpacks full of school supplies were given to children in military families.

About 500 children received the free backpacks and school supplies at the Reed Center, 5800 Will Rogers Road, said Operation Homefront spokeswoman Carol Herrick.

The supplies were donated by members of the Midwest City community and collected at Dollar Tree stores throughout the city, Herrick said.
